February 21st, 2011 — Show Coverage
After ten glorious years of the Iron Artist competition at the long-running and respected Katsucon anime convention, after this years show, one thing was abundantly clear – Super Art Fight had arrived.
Having grown out of the Iron Artist competition in February 2008, we at Super Art Fight had long been keeping the Iron Artist traditions alive, but after an event on Saturday, February 19th, it was very clear – we’ve created something even bigger, even crazier and even wilder. A new tradition began this weekend.
This past Saturday we presented three bouts to hundreds of giddy fans. Per usual, live commentary was provided by our own Marty Day and Ross Nover, with DJing during the bouts handled by DJ Sheephead.
Bout 1: Nick “Ghostfreehood” Borkowicz (performing as Robocop) defeated the debuting Bill Ellis (artist of All New Issues).
Bill Ellis came to the Art Fight stage after tearing out quite the fine corner of the web for himself with his fantastic webcomic. However, battling a crafty art fight veteran like Borkowicz took him to his limit. Ellis showed the Katsucon crowd that he truly deserved to hang with the roster, but in the end, the fans went robot and chose Borkowicz as the victor.
Bout 2: Kelsey Wailes defeated Super Art Fight Champion Michael “Spaghetti Kiss” Bracco in a non-title bout.
A true SAF classic, Kelsey Wailes definitely showed that she’s grown out of the rookie phase of her career by taking the current SAF champion to the limit in one of the greatest bouts we’ve ever presented. Ugly Pokemon, amazing Kaiju monsters and amazing off-canvas antics captivated the crowd, but we learned that this battle couldn’t be contained, as it even went off the boards and onto a nearby cardboard box. Will we see Kelsey step up in the future? Is this the first cracks in the reign of Bracco? Stay tuned.
Main Event Bout: The Legendary Frank Cho (artist for comics including Liberty Meadows, Mighty Avengers and Hulk) defeated Jami “Angry Zen Master” Noguchi in a Super Art Fight Dream Bout.
Jami Noguchi has never been a man to make many demands. Co-founder of Super Art Fight and the first ever champion, he’s been to the top and had all the accolades he needed. But when he found out that Frank Cho was in attendance, he knew who he wanted to battle this year. Like Noguchi’s battle against Jo Chen last year, this was a truly unique experience that you’d only find at a show like Katsucon, and while the content on canvas toed the line of controversy (including a memorable drawing of our hosts by Cho), this was truly an all-time classic.
Once again, we’d like to thank all of the fans who came out for the bout, the artists for donating their time and skill, and the Katsucon Charity Auction for letting us do such silly things for a great cause.
In important news, we are proud to announce that Super Art Fight will RETURN for Katsucon 18 (Weekend of February 17-19, 2012) with not just one, but TWO shows. A traditional Saturday afternoon show, and a super extreme late night event to push our art to the limit. We cannot wait!
February 16th, 2011 — Show Announcements

For those attending the latest installment of what we believe to be one of the finest (if not the finest) anime conventions on the east coast this weekend, that being the amazing Katsucon 17, heads up!
We, Super Art Fight, the GREATEST Live Art Competition In The Known Universe will be attending, and not just shilling our wares, including TWO BRAND NEW T-SHIRTS, but we’ll be doing a full event as a part of the weekend’s festivities.
Saturday, February 19th, 3pm in Main Events. Write that down. Yes. On your forehead. In Sharpie.
That’s where we’ll be doing our show, and we have a full two and a half hour block to go nuts in, and believe us, we’ll be pulling out ALL of the stops.
See, this isn’t just any convention appearance for us. Katsucon is our HOME. Birthed out of IRON ARTIST VII in 2008, we have had the honor and privilege of hosting every Iron Artist since. And in this years installment, the TENTH Iron Artist overall, we will give you everything we have to give proper homage to the stage that gave Super Art Fight its life.
Appearing on stage this weekend:
- Super Art Fight Champion Michael “Spaghetti Kiss” Bracco
- Nick “Ghostfreehood” Borkowicz
- Jami “Angry Zen Master” Noguchi
- Kelsey Wailes

- More to be announced!
Keep an eye on our Twitter Feed all weekend long as we announce surprise additions to the card and the full listing of bouts.
