Folks, there is nothing we love more than getting to come back to a Super Art Fight town.
So you can imagine how excited we are that in September, we’ll be back in Rockville, Maryland for TWO WEEKENDS in a ROW, presenting two, VERY unique, VERY different events.
Saturday, September 10th brings SPX (Small Press Expo) to Rockville, MD. For the first time ever, we at Super Art Fight get to serve as the post Ignatz Awards entertainment, showcasing a short, two bout set mixing Super Art Fight legends with the stars of the independent comics world to a brand new audience!
The following weekend, Saturday, September 17th, we return to the scene of quite a few mind crimes, as we return for the second annual Intervention internet convention! If you saw us there LAST year, you know the deal for THIS year. During the afternoon, we’ll be doing an all age…OK, PG-13 live show full of the Super Art Fight action you know and love. But as the night gets later, hold on to your butts, as we’ll be presenting Super Art Fight Unleashed, an 18+ event that mixes no-holds barred Q&A with the entire Super Art Fight family along with some of the most bizarre, surreal and downright deplorable art created by our crew that you will EVER see. Please note – due to the unique nature of the event (and the fact that we have day jobs), NO PHOTOGRAPHY OR VIDEO WILL BE ALLOWED. If we see you do it, you’re out. So you’ll want to join us LIVE for this one, as you just get ONE chance to experience it – in PERSON.
Click the links on both con names for full ticket details, and in the days and weeks closer, we’ll share out with you a full roster of talent and the scheduled bouts! We hope to see all of our DC/MD area fans across these two shows and meet more along the way, it’s going to be great fun this September!
We knew in the planning stages of this show that Super Art Fight 11 had a shot at being something truly special, but as the over 400 of you who packed The Ottobar this past Saturday night know, the evening was truly one of our best.
With four stunning bouts and absolutely jaw dropping musical performances by Bear & Walrus and headliners Anamanaguchi, it was an amazing way to end the summer and kick off the beginning of our packed fall season.
Each bout truly set the pace for the future of Super Art Fight, and if this show was ANY indication, we’re just getting started.
Here’s what went down.
Super Art Fight Tag Team Title Decision Match: Nick “Ghostfreehood” Borkowicz & Kelsey “Killer” Wailes defeated TEAM IMPACT (Jamie “Angry Zen Master” Noguchi & Chris “Impact” Impink w/ Bryan “Silent But Violent” Prindiville) to become the FIRST EVER Super Art Fight Tag Champions
Truly a unique way to kick off the event, two teams full of SAF veterans clashed in a conjoined twin battle. Dressed as Batman villain Bane and a surreal monster respectively, Borkowicz and Wailes had their hands full with the now 3-person deep Team Impact, but their strong teamwork and unique combined style gave them the duke infront of the Ottobar audience. Three years into his career, our own Ghostfreehood can say he finally has achieved championship glory, and it will be interesting to see how he and Wailes lead the division through the rest of the year and into 2012.
“The Nicest Man in Super Art Fight” Brandon J. Carr defeated Jamie “Brawlin’” Baldwin
What’s to say about Brandon J. Carr that hasn’t already been said? Racking up some VERY impressive singles victories over some of Super Art Fight’s best, he came into SAF11 with a head full of steam. It looked like that Baldwin, a former SAF champion, would derail the train that is Carr, but at the end of the 25 minute period, it was the bearded man from Virginia’s hand who was raised, and you have to believe that’s sent a very clear message to the SAF Title Committee.
Super Art Fight IDOL Finals: Darl “Apocalypse” Gnau defeated “The Business Ninja” Henry Alexander to gain a FULL-TIME Super Art Fight roster spot.
The final stage in a competition that brought together 16 amazing artists from across the United States, this was a hotly anticipated bout not just for the Super Art Fight faithful, but for our own roster, who packed the side stage to see who would be the next artist to join their ranks. Brooklyn’s own Henry Alexander had many a ninja trick under his sleeve, including shennaniganry alongside fellow ninja and Idol competitor “Charm City Shinobi” Dann Malihom, but Baltimore’s Gnau brought a silent rage to the canvas. The man covered in tattoos truly won over the audience, and on this day, his hand was raised in victory, bringing the Apocalypse to Super Art Fight. While not the last we see of ANY of the Idol competitors, Darl now will be seen in regular events.
MAIN EVENT: Super Art Fight Title Bout Michael “Spaghetti Kiss” Bracco defeated Kelsey “Killer” Wailes to retain the SAF Title, his second defense of this, his second reign as champion.
Wailes truly came out swinging, dressed as the Bride from Kill Bill, but perhaps the pressure of two title bouts was one too many for her. Bracco wanted very badly to reclaim his singles victory back at Katsucon earlier this year, and he did – while wrapped in one of the most unique costumes ever seen in SAF history. At the end of 25 neck and neck minutes, the inital vote went to a dead solid tie, but upon a second vote, Michael Bracco, covered in blood, sweat, tentacles and perhaps too small of speedo, continued his reign on top of the Art Fight Mountain.
From here, of course, our next big event will be Super Art Fight 12, but that’s not without quite a few stops in between! Keep an eye here and on our upcoming shows page to see where we’ll be (heads up, Rockville and Connecticut!) as we are on the Road to SAF12, and as we saw last Saturday night – the sky is TRULY the limit.
Stick around to SuperArtFight.com for more coverage including the post-bout interviews from our own Eh Yo Dern! and show photos from on site photographer Erin Surrock. Gonna be some great stuff comin’!
That’s right, Super Art Fight fans. They’ve always said, if you can make it in New York, you can make it anywhere, so we said simply “Challenge Accepted”.
On Saturday Afternoon, January 28th, 2012, we are proud to announce that we will be making our Brooklyn, New York debut at the beautiful Galapagos Art Space.
Ticket details, talent roster and further information will be announced as the show gets closer, but we wanted to show you that we are kicking off 2012 right with our first show in the great state of New York!
Well folks, this is it. After months of hype, buildup and excitement, tomorrow night at 9pm, the stage will be set and Super Art Fight 11 will finally be here.
Coming at you live from The Ottobar in Baltimore, Maryland, we intend to give you everything we have to make for one of the greatest shows we’ve done to date. It’s been 4 long months since we last graced the stage of our home, and we want to remind you exactly how much we love Charm City.
That said, here are some important things to know about before showtime.
Tickets: Super Art Fight 11 currently has the highest pre-sale of any event we’ve put on to date (thank you VERY, VERY much). While there are still ample tickets available, past shows have resulted in a heavy, heavy walkup (including lines outside and around the venue), so we must advise you, if you haven’t decided to purchase tickets via MissionTix.com, available for just a few more hours at the time of this post, GET THERE EARLY. We will do our best to get everyone we can into the show, but in the event of a sell-out, we apologize if you are shut out.
Baltimore Comic Con Folks: Are you attending Baltimore Comic Con? Great! So are we! (Well, many of us at least). Baltimore Comic Con closes its doors for the day on Saturday at 6pm. Our show has a door time of 8pm, with the show starting promptly at 9pm, more than enough time for you to grab a nice dinner and then enjoy an evening of amazing music and art fighting. Per Google Maps, it’s a short 9 minute drive from the Convention Center to the Ottobar, so do not fret!
Show Order: If you’re wondering exactly the running order for tomorow night’s show, here you go.
-BOUT 1: SAF Tag Title Match Noguchi/Impink versus Borkowicz/Wailes
-BOUT 2: Baldwin versus Carr
-MUSICAL GUEST 1: Bear & Walrus
-BOUT 3: SAF Idol Finals Alexander versus Gnau
-BOUT 4: SAF Title Bout Bracco versus Wailes
-MUSICAL GUEST 2: Anamanaguchi
Sponsors & Giveaways: Just like Super Art Fight X, this show has been sponsored by the lovely people at ThinkGeek and Alliance Comics. Come on out and find out how you can win an assortment of gift certificates from both of our amazing sponsors.
Merchandise: As usual, we’ll have a stocked merchandise table, including the shirts and prints you’ve come to expect from our past shows. We’re proud to debut two new items, as we’ll be selling a limited run of the 8-bit styled Super Art Fight 11 poster designed by Kelsey Wailes, plus this…somewhat disturbing new t-shirt design from Michael Bracco.
Also, as usual, the art created over the course of the night will be available for auction, and pre-purchase prints will be for sale as well.
If you have any last minute questions or concerns, hit us up on Twitter. We’ll be posting live updates at (shocker) @SuperArtFight.
Once again, we are so VERY VERY excited to put this show on tomorrow night, and we thank you again for being the greatest audience in the world to perform for. We’ll see you at the Ottobar, where anything and everything can and will happen.
As we broke last night, Super Art Fight IDOL finalist Monica Gallagher will be unable to compete in this weekends event, Super Art Fight 11.
To explain what’s happened, to send a message to our fans and to send a message to Darl Gnau and Henry Alexander (her fellow finalists) she has sent the above video.
With the hours and minutes counting down to Super Art Fight 11 at The Ottobar in Baltimore, Maryland, everything is coming down to the wire, and unfortunately, sometimes, this can mean some last minute changes to the show. Such as this one.
Unfortunately, Super Art Fight Idol finalist Monica Gallagher will be unable to compete on Saturday’s event due to a personal commitment. In turn, we have revised the scheduled Super Art Fight IDOL Final Bout to be as follows…
Darl “Apocalypse” Gnau versus “Business Ninja” Henry Alexander
We apologize for the last minute change to the card, but as they say, real life happens. Monica has expressed her intent to be a part of future Super Art Fight cards down the line, and intends to send a video to the Super Art Fight fans. We look forward to featuring her skills on the canvas in the near future.
As Super Art Fight 11 is very much influenced by the Nintendo generation, what with our two amazing chiptune acts, Anamanaguchi and Bear & Walrus rocking the stage between bouts, but we decided we needed to step it up.
In turn, our own Kelsey Wailes has created an absolutely amazing new poster for the show, in an art style that might seem familiar…
But don’t worry gang, this isn’t our final show, and it sure isn’t a fantasy, it’s really happening live at the Ottobar on Saturday, August 20th. And yes, to answer early- prints of this poster WILL be available at the show!
So, heading into Super Art Fight 11, a lot of the SAF Championship Committee’s work was done for them.
Title bout? Set. Tag title bout? Set too. SAF Idol Finals? Set for months.
But we needed a fourth bout, we needed something with stakes, something to show how the deep roster of talent is battling toward the spots at the top – so they looked hard, they looked long, and found a first time battle with some major implications for shows moving forward.
On one side, we have a former SAF Champion in her own right, someone who has seen the top of Super Art Fight and defeated all of the biggest names on our roster.
On the other, a true up and comer, someone who while dubbed the “Nicest Man In Art Fight”, hasn’t been afraid to defeat almost every person who has stood in his path…
So, for Super Art Fight 11 on Saturday Night, August 20th, 2011, it’s going to be a first time ever one on one showdown…
Jamie “Brawlin’” Baldwin vs. Brandon J. Carr
Both competitors have produced some of the most memorable bouts in Super Art Fight history, and we expect both to bring their A-Game to The Ottobar in Baltimore, Maryland. Be sure to see it live and join us in person for a night you won’t forget! Tickets are on sale NOW and are moving fast!
