One week ago today, Super Art Fight made its return to Washington, DC’s infamous Black Cat. It was a whirlwind evening, with an over capacity live crowd keeping the energy going all night long.
Three amazing bouts took the stage as we continue to roll through our Summer 2013 tour. For those who missed it, here’s what went down.
BOUT 1: Jamie “Brawlin'” Baldwin def. “Charm City Shinobi” Dann Malihom (Ants vs. Picnics)
Spinning out of our last Ottobar appearance in March, the makeshift tag team who lost a tag title shot were at odds in our opening contest. Malihom debuted a new attitude, going maskless, showing the crowd what Dann Malihom was truly all about. While in the end he lost to the veteran and former SAF Champion Baldwin, there’s no doubt that Malihom is on his way towards a new phase of his career – solo.
BOUT 2: Jamie “Angry Zen Master” Noguchi def. Darl “Apocalypse” Gnau (Speedo vs. Bikini)
This first time one-on-one bout may have been built on internal Team IMPACT tension, but by the end of the bout, the complicated relationship of current SAF Champion Noguchi and former SAF Tag Champion Gnau appeared to be on good footing, even if Noguchi took the win. At one time, it seemed the massive Team IMPACT family was falling apart, but at the Black Cat, if only for one night, things seemed positive. More on this as it develops.
BOUT 3: Team Sexyfulness (The Baron & Dutchess Von Sexyful) def. The Nicest Team In Art Fight (Brandon J. Carr & Red Erin) to retain the SAF Tag Titles in their first defense (Winter vs. Summer)
Put it in the record books, the SAF tag team curse has been broken! After 5 straight champions winning and promptly losing SAF Tag Team Gold, Team Sexyfulness looks to set the record of tag defenses, so far with…1. Antics were high in this bout, as both teams made use of props, surprise instruments of art and even our referee, Brandon Chalmers, but in the end by one decibel, Sexyfulness reigned supreme.
The SAF 2013 Summer tour continues on Sunday, June 30th with our first time appearance at the Jewish Museum of Maryland. We’ll be announcing the full card for that on Monday. DC folks, look for our return in early 2014 – in the meantime, keep your dials locked to SuperArtFight.com and @SuperArtFight for future show details.
