Folks, it’s been 9 days since our final show of 2011, the absolutely stupendous Super Art Fight 12. Having featured two amazing live musical performances from Rare Candy and Adam WarRock respectively, the night was set off right by the bands presented – but what will continue to be talked about are the four amazing bouts that evening, which resulted in the crowning of ALL NEW CHAMPIONS.

Here’s what went down…

Super Art Fight Title #1 Contender’s Bout: Jamie “Brawlin’” Baldwin defeated Jamie “Angry Zen Master” Noguchi (w/ Mecha Impact 3.0) and Chelsea “Grose Misconduct” Grose.

The result for this absolutely insane bout was one definitely fraught in controversy – it seems that Jamie Baldwin simply cannot avoid it when it comes to her and key victories. Team Impact’s full effect was felt, with antics from both Impact and Noguchi, and Chelsea Grose made a solid return to the SAF canvas, after being away due to CCRG duties, but at the end, there was only one winner. With a full decible point in her favor, Jamie Baldwin wins a title shot in 2012, and she might just be on her way to her second SAF title!

Super Art Fight Tag Team Title Bout: “The Business” Henry Alexander & “Charm City Shinobi” Dann Malihom defeated Nick “Ghostfreehood” DiFabbio & Kelsey “Killer” Wailes to become the NEW CHAMPIONS.

The wind of change was certainly felt in the air at the Ottobar, as the team of Super Art Fight IDOL finalists Alexander & Malihom secured their name in SAF history, as the second ever SAF tag champions. For the Doctor Who loving duo of Nick and Kelsey, their crazed tag team reign ends almost as quickly as it started, and now they are a duo in flux (more to come on that). This was arguably the wildest bout of the evening, and while you may question how Alexander secured the tag title shot, there’s no doubt that he is the Business…and Business is good.

Battle of the Big Men! Bryan “Silent But Violent” Prindiville defeated Darl “Apocalypse” Gnau

They weren’t the flashiest, they weren’t the most extreme, but when it came down to pure on canvas action, Prindiville and Gnau had it in spades. Two of the most physically intimidating SAF competitors went literally toe to toe, and when the dust cleared, the returning Bryan Prindiville nabbed the victory. But it sure seems these competitors have a level of respect for each other. What will this mean for Team Impact?

Super Art Fight Title Bout: “The Nicest Man in Art Fight” Brandon J. Carr defeated Michael “Spaghetti Kiss” Bracco to become the NEW SUPER ART FIGHT CHAMPION.

Wow. At the beginning of this year, Brandon J. Carr was making his Ottobar debut against Caldwell Tanner, and Michael Bracco was securing his second SAF title from the waist of Jamie Baldwin. What an amazing difference a year makes. The dapper Carr was as always, respectful, showing former Champion Bracco respect on the way out, and issuing a new age in Super Art Fight. At the end of SAF 12, one thing was clear – the new generation was here, and they are here to stay.

What to Look For in 2012?

-With Brandon Carr, Dann Malihom and Henry Alexander securing titles at SAF 12, a new generation movement has taken SAF by storm. At the beginning of 2011, none of these competitors were regulars, and now they are at the top of the game – there’s a very good chance that the champions we have at the end of next year haven’t even tackled the canvas yet!

-But don’t count out the vets! Jamie Baldwin is primed to go for a second SAF title, Nick DiFabbio wants to rebuild his name as a singles star, and Team Impact wants all the gold – who, of these competitors, will make it to title contention in 2012?

-Speaking of Team Impact – now that the 3rd Man, Bryan Prindiville is making friends with Darl Gnau, is he on the outs? Or will Team Impact’s roster now be a team of FOUR?

-Michael Bracco was seen after his bout discussing tag team strategy with a prominent member of the SAF roster – could he be aiming for tag gold in 2012?

Stick around, as all this and more comes to a head next year – our 2012 season kicks off with MAGFest in January, and who knows what will happen! Thank you so much for supporting us through 2011, and we cannot wait to take it to the next level next year. We will see you soon!

Wow. Simply wow.

We knew in the planning stages of this show that Super Art Fight 11 had a shot at being something truly special, but as the over 400 of you who packed The Ottobar this past Saturday night know, the evening was truly one of our best.

With four stunning bouts and absolutely jaw dropping musical performances by Bear & Walrus and headliners Anamanaguchi, it was an amazing way to end the summer and kick off the beginning of our packed fall season.

Each bout truly set the pace for the future of Super Art Fight, and if this show was ANY indication, we’re just getting started.

Here’s what went down.

Super Art Fight Tag Team Title Decision Match: Nick “Ghostfreehood” Borkowicz & Kelsey “Killer” Wailes defeated TEAM IMPACT (Jamie “Angry Zen Master” Noguchi & Chris “Impact” Impink w/ Bryan “Silent But Violent” Prindiville) to become the FIRST EVER Super Art Fight Tag Champions

Truly a unique way to kick off the event, two teams full of SAF veterans clashed in a conjoined twin battle. Dressed as Batman villain Bane and a surreal monster respectively, Borkowicz and Wailes had their hands full with the now 3-person deep Team Impact, but their strong teamwork and unique combined style gave them the duke infront of the Ottobar audience. Three years into his career, our own Ghostfreehood can say he finally has achieved championship glory, and it will be interesting to see how he and Wailes lead the division through the rest of the year and into 2012.

“The Nicest Man in Super Art Fight” Brandon J. Carr defeated Jamie “Brawlin’” Baldwin

What’s to say about Brandon J. Carr that hasn’t already been said? Racking up some VERY impressive singles victories over some of Super Art Fight’s best, he came into SAF11 with a head full of steam. It looked like that Baldwin, a former SAF champion, would derail the train that is Carr, but at the end of the 25 minute period, it was the bearded man from Virginia’s hand who was raised, and you have to believe that’s sent a very clear message to the SAF Title Committee.

Super Art Fight IDOL Finals: Darl “Apocalypse” Gnau defeated “The Business Ninja” Henry Alexander to gain a FULL-TIME Super Art Fight roster spot.

The final stage in a competition that brought together 16 amazing artists from across the United States, this was a hotly anticipated bout not just for the Super Art Fight faithful, but for our own roster, who packed the side stage to see who would be the next artist to join their ranks. Brooklyn’s own Henry Alexander had many a ninja trick under his sleeve, including shennaniganry alongside fellow ninja and Idol competitor “Charm City Shinobi” Dann Malihom, but Baltimore’s Gnau brought a silent rage to the canvas. The man covered in tattoos truly won over the audience, and on this day, his hand was raised in victory, bringing the Apocalypse to Super Art Fight. While not the last we see of ANY of the Idol competitors, Darl now will be seen in regular events.

MAIN EVENT: Super Art Fight Title Bout Michael “Spaghetti Kiss” Bracco defeated Kelsey “Killer” Wailes to retain the SAF Title, his second defense of this, his second reign as champion.

Wailes truly came out swinging, dressed as the Bride from Kill Bill, but perhaps the pressure of two title bouts was one too many for her. Bracco wanted very badly to reclaim his singles victory back at Katsucon earlier this year, and he did – while wrapped in one of the most unique costumes ever seen in SAF history. At the end of 25 neck and neck minutes, the inital vote went to a dead solid tie, but upon a second vote, Michael Bracco, covered in blood, sweat, tentacles and perhaps too small of speedo, continued his reign on top of the Art Fight Mountain.

From here, of course, our next big event will be Super Art Fight 12, but that’s not without quite a few stops in between! Keep an eye here and on our upcoming shows page to see where we’ll be (heads up, Rockville and Connecticut!) as we are on the Road to SAF12, and as we saw last Saturday night – the sky is TRULY the limit.

Stick around to SuperArtFight.com for more coverage including the post-bout interviews from our own Eh Yo Dern! and show photos from on site photographer Erin Surrock. Gonna be some great stuff comin’!

For the third year in a row, the Super Art Fight fanbase has spoken. While we may be Baltimore born and bread, Hartford, CT really is our secondary home.

In the shadow of a company who we borrow more than a few concepts from, we made our Connecticon return, and in front of over 2000 screaming fans, put on one of the biggest shows of our existence. Art Fighters past, present and future were gathered for one of the most unique bouts ever, The SAF Rumble, and the main event pitted two longtime fan favorites in a bout to finally end years long undefeated streaks.

What went down? Here you go, gang.

Nick “Ghostfreehood” Borkowicz defeated Super Art Fight Champion Michael “Spaghetti Kiss” Bracco
The show kicked off with two SAF vets, as two competitors known for their theatricality battled tooth and nail, not only setting the pace for the event themselves, but showing CTCon what Art Fighting is all about. While he was dressed as a Gorilla, Borkowicz proved he wasn’t monkeying around, as he scored a key road victory over the reigning SAF champion, the flamboyant Michael Bracco.

Jami “Angry Zen Master” Noguchi outlasted 12 other competitors to win the first ever Super Art Fight Rumble.
First in…and last out. Earning a new nickname of “Iron Man”, our own Angry Zen Master conquered one of the difficult victories in SAF history – defeating 12 other art fighters in a non-stop elimination bout. We saw SAF All Stars like Caldwell Tanner, Garth Graham and Jamie Baldwin; SAF Idolists such as Peter Johnson, Mike Donahue, Ashley Harnden and Rain Tessman; and outside talent such as David Willis, Joel Watson, Alina Pete and Alex Heberling – our own DERN got into the action, but Jami stepped up and took them all down. It was a madcap performance the likes of which had never been seen at an SAF before, but on this day, Jami went the distance – having his hand raised in victory, and the trophy going home with him. An amazing spectacle that could only be held at a stage as large (literally and figuratively) as Connecticon.

Yuko Ota defeated Lar DeSouza in the Main Event of the evening.
Joining us both for Connecticon 2009 and live event since, Yuko and Lar were two of the most respected and beloved art fighters to never become full-time roster members. But more so than that, they shared the same record – completely undefeated. With two big name talents such as they, we knew that on this day, a very special main event had to be held, and both delivered. The battle went everywhere, across all 6 panels, onto an additional four, and it drew the crowd into such a frenzy that our commentators were left silent by the cheers and chants. At the end of the 25 minute period, only one could walk away with a perfect record, and on that day, Connecticon chose Yuko Ota as the victor! An amazing performance from both artists, and a bout that will be talked about for some time to come.

Once again, we at Super Art Fight would like to thank each and every one of you who packed the Connecticon Main Events room for a show that just a few years ago was breaking fire codes. It’s an honor and a pleasure to perform for you every year, and if you thought this show was amazing, just wait until 2012!

Big thanks again to Alyssa Mow for booking us again, and Eric Badger for making sure we were taken care of all weekend long. Connecticon is truly a classy show that shows other cons how it should be done. Our New England Swing was an amazing weekend, and we hope to see you folks up north again real soon!

This past Thursday evening, our New England Swing kicked off with a stop in Boston, Massachusetts, as we had the honor and pleasure of kicking off vitaminwater® Uncapped LIVE Boston, a month long event just a block away from Fenway Park, with music, fashion and other great live events, all being sponsored by your pals and ours, vitaminwater®.

Before a jam-packed VIP crowd (and a select batch of Boston-area Super Art Fight fans), we featured 2 fantastic bouts, sandwiching a live performance from the awesome Bodega Girls.

Seen on that card was as follows…

Jami “Angry Zen Master” Noguchi defeated Jamie “Brawlin’” Baldwin

Team Boston (Shelli Paroline and Braden Lamb) defeated Team Super Art Fight (Michael “Spaghetti Kiss” Bracco and The Business Ninja, Henry Alexander)

All and all it was an amazing evening, with the Boston artists making a very impactful debut, defeating the current SAF champion and an SAF Idol finalist, meaning it sure wont be the last you see of Shelli or Braden, and Jami Noguchi set the stage for what would be a momentous weekend.

It was an absolute pleasure to return to Boston, and we hope to come back very soon. Huge thanks again to vitaminwater® for hosting us, and to the audience for being so rad.

If you missed the show, don’t worry! The folks at SumoSkinny shot a video of the evening, and put it online. Here it is for your enjoyment, or to relive the night! Enjoy!

This past Saturday afternoon, we at Super Art Fight were proud to present a unique event unlike any we’ve ever hosted before – Super Art Fight Idol.

On this day, 16 individuals battled tooth and nail to become the next permanent member of the Super Art Fight roster. It was truly unlike any of our shows to date, with a whopping fourteen bouts. New stars were born, tough decisions were made, and a highly surprising ending wrapped up the day.

Here are the results as they went down. All bouts were judged by SAF co-founders Nick “Ghostfreehood” Borkowicz and Jami “Angry Zen Master” Noguchi alongside SAF Champion Michael “Spaghetti Kiss” Bracco. Live commentary was provided by Ross Nover and Marty Day, with DJ Sheephead dropping the beats.

-SAF Idol: Round 1-

Joe Hunter defeated Zach Ginsburg

Henry Alexander defeated Peter Johnson

Mike O’Brien defeated Rain Tessman

Jeff Eoff defeated Mike Donohue

Darl Gnau defeated Sam Haines

Felipe Gonclaves defeated Dann Malihom

Monica Gallagher defeated Ashley Harnden

Mark Tomczak defeated RL May III

-SAF Idol: Quarter Finals-

Henry Alexander defeated Joe Hunter

Mike O’Brien defeated Jeff Eoff

Darl Gnau defeated Felipe Gonclaves

Monica Gallagher defeated Mark Tomczak

-SAF Idol: Semi Finals-

Henry Alexander defeated Mike O’Brien

Monica Gallagher and Darl Gnau went to a judge’s decision…

The decision was made as follows…At Super Art Fight XI, we will have the first ever SAF Three-Way Dance – Henry Alexander, Darl Gnau AND Monica Gallagher will battle for the SAF Roster Spot!

A HUGE thanks goes out to all sixteen artists who traveled to the show (special thanks to Joe Hunter, who came all the way from OHIO! and Rain Tessman, who joined us from CONNECTICUT!), and of course The Metro Gallery for allowing us to host experimental shows like Super Art Fight Idol. We promised that this wasn’t the last time you’d see these artists, and we will hold to it – just because these artists didn’t make it to the final bout doesn’t mean they’re gone for good! Such amazing talent on display that we HAVE to have them back soon!

Meanwhile, for our folks in Baltimore, we’ll be seeing you next at Super Art Fight XI, which is the topic of our next post!

This past Friday night, fans made it through the awful rainy weather and packed the Ottobar for the latest in our ongoing series of main event shows – Super Art Fight X!

Jampacked full of artfighting goodness with FOUR big time bouts, not to mention amazing musical performances by Club Scout and MC Lars (featuring Weerd Science), the show was an absolute marathon of awesome that left the audience blown away.

Miss the evening and want to know what went down? Here are your official results.

Bout #1: Kelsey “Killer” Wailes defeated Chelsea “Grose Misconduct” Grose to become the #1 Contender for the Super Art Fight Championship.

The evening started strong with two of SAF’s best clashing for a shot at the top. Each artist came prepared with their own costumes (Wailes as a Monster, Grose as Maleficent) and tackled the canvas with unabashed abandon. Neck and neck throughout the 25 minute battle, it seemed like it was anyone’s game, but in the end, Kelsey Wailes found herself the victor, and on her way toward SAF gold!

Bout #2: Jami “Angry Zen Master” Noguchi and Mystery Partner Mecha Impact! defeated Team Sexy Science! (Caldwell Tanner & Jamie Baldwin)

The latest and greatest addition to Super Art Fight, our madcap tag division once again entranced the Ottobar audience, as both teams battled hard, wanting the opportunity to gain a shot at the SAF tag titles at SAFXI. It seemed that Jami Noguchi was actually going to take on Team Sexy Science by himself, but he had a surprise in store for the labcoated duo. As Noguchi started to wain, he called out and – in one of the loudest audience reactions in Super Art Fight history – the fans went ballistic as MECHA IMPACT made his debut! Suffice to say, from that moment forward, the bout was in the bag, a welcome return to the winning side of things for both Noguchi and Impink.

Bout #3: GRUDGE MATCH! Brandon J. Carr defeated Nick “Ghostfreehood” Borkowicz

A rematch from our DC debut, many who saw this bout last month couldn’t wait to see it again at the Ottobar, and neither competitor disappointed! Carr and Borkowicz (dressed as Magneto and Cable respectively) gave their all in one of the most tightly contested bouts of the night. While it certainly seemed Borkowicz had victory in the bag, a last minute rally allowed Brandon J. Carr to sneak past and grab the win, continuing his amazing undefeated streak. You have to believe he’s in consideration for a future SAF title shot at this rate.

Bout #4: Michael “Spaghetti Kiss” Bracco defeated Bryan “Silent But Violent” Prindiville to retain his Super Art Fight Championship.

We knew going into this bout that it was going to be one of the most hard fought championship bouts in SAF history – but man oh man did it deliver in ways we did not anticipate! Bracco and Prindiville came out swinging, covering the canvas in large art, jockeying for position and each trying to out do each other as the minutes ticked down. The fans, clearly divided into Bracco and Prindiville cheering sections each wanted their man to win the battle – but it all came down to the decibel readings. With just FRACTIONS of a point separating the two, Bracco came away with the first successful defense of his second reign, but Prindiville knew that it wouldn’t be too long before he’d be challenging again.

What a great night it was. We’d like to once again thank the Ottobar for hosting us, you fans for coming out and Alliance Comics and ThinkGeek for sponsoring the evening. We’ll see you on May 21st for Super Art Fight Idol, sometime in July or August for SAFXI and more dates to come in our summer schedule. See you all REAL soon!
