As Super Art Fight 11 is very much influenced by the Nintendo generation, what with our two amazing chiptune acts, Anamanaguchi and Bear & Walrus rocking the stage between bouts, but we decided we needed to step it up.

In turn, our own Kelsey Wailes has created an absolutely amazing new poster for the show, in an art style that might seem familiar…

But don’t worry gang, this isn’t our final show, and it sure isn’t a fantasy, it’s really happening live at the Ottobar on Saturday, August 20th. And yes, to answer early- prints of this poster WILL be available at the show!

Back on Saturday, July 10th at Connecticon 2010, as a part of The Havoc of Hartford, history was made.

Not only did we feature a record-breaking live attendance record BUT, the horribly adorable canine bovine known as Puppy Cow was born on a Super Art Fight canvas.

And based on the amazing response to his creation, our own Jami “Angry Zen Master” Noguchi is working on making Puppy Cow a real live plushie!

To get the fundage going, he’s going to everyone’s crowd-sourcing site, Kickstarter.

At the time of this writing, he’s at 43% funded, with the deadline being September 1, but I think I speak for all of us when I say that we want it to be over 100% by that date.

If you look at the calendar, today is June 1st.   Should you be the type to keep tabs on this sort of thing, this date is Super Art Fight‘s official date of birth, having first reared it’s ugly head on June 1st, 2008 at the Ottobar in Baltimore, Maryland.

Back then, it was just an Art Fight, nothing more, pitting Nick “Ghostfreehood” Borkowicz against Jami “Angry Zen Master” Noguchi in the first such bout.  Set as an upstairs attraction during an MC Chris/Karmella’s Game show, we had no idea what would happen.

But here we are, 2 years later. We’ve grown to a steady roster of 9, featured some of the greatest artists across the Globe, and expanded our shows from one venue in Maryland to shows up and down the East Coast.  And this is just the tip of the iceburg.

We’ve never been one to rest on our laurels and on this occasion of our “birth” so to say, we aren’t going to make an exception.

Starting later this week, we start announcing the bouts for Super Art Fight 7, on July 17th at The Metro Gallery in Baltimore.  The bouts feature some of our best, and as our gift, admission is free. Get ready for one hell of a night.

So we’ve decided to open up a Message Forum.

This’ll be the place where you can talk with your fellow Super Art Fight fans, staff and artists about shows coming, shows gone past, and well…just about anything else.  We’re still working out the kinks, so mind the dust, but otherwise, it’s a good time.

It’s not often we take a look behind the curtain here at Super Art Fight, but this is an example of one of those times where it’s probably best for all parties that we take the time to drop the “characters” and the “hype” and just talk straight to you, our awesome audience.

As you’ve probably noticed, we at Super Art Fight are growing at a rapid pace. Very rapid, more so than we ever imagined, and it’s all due to your great fans.

After a really positive summer con season, we moved towards booking more shows into the fall.  One of the shows we looked at, due both to it’s warm reception to our fellow artists, and it’s close distance to our homebase here in Baltimore, was this weekends Nekocon 12.

We applied to have a panel.  This panel was approved, and we wanted to have the show be part of our fall schedule.

Then, we started plot out the show which became Super Art Fight 5, and our appearance at GameX in Philadelphia two weekends back.  Simply put, our budget would NOT allow for the Nekocon show.

On Saturday October 10th, we e-mailed back to the convention, canceling our appearance.

Despite this, we were advertised for this weekend.

And it is my understanding that there was a room with 30 people waiting for our show tonight at 8pm.

To the fine audience who showed up, I hope you can read this. I apologize greatly for the inconvenience, and we hope to see you soon.

Again, to our fans, we apologize, and hope to avoid this type of conflict in the future.

This year, Super Art Fight is a proud participant of Connecticon 2009, held at the lovely Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford, Connecticut, pictured above.

We’ll be doing not just one, but two seperate appearances over the course of the weekend, both conveiently on Saturday.

Saturday Afternoon, August 1st, 1-3pm, Main Events Room: The Webcomics Auction
Team SAF will be creating a mural on canvas during the proceedings, with the resulting work being auctioned off for the Child’s Play charity at the end of the show.

Saturday Evening, August 1st, 5-7pm, Panel Room 4: Super Art Fight
A little scaled down, but never the less an event to take in, Super Art Fight bombards Connecticon with 3 bouts over a 2 hour period, featuring the SAF New Talent Initiative!
