Last July, powered by a groundswell of amazing fan support, Super Art Fight descended upon Otakon 2012 for a Midnight, 18+ Saturday Night live show.

After years of rejection, years of being not quite the right fit, because of fans like yourselves, we made it to the biggest geek party of our hometown, and we had one goal – become infamous or famous.

Over 1,000 of you showed up, filled the room, and together we went down in infamy.  Some of the craziest art, most ridiculous moments and downright silly fan interactions of our entire five year run went down that evening.  It’s a show which we’ve never stopped hearing about since.

For the four years prior, the question was “Are you ever going to play Otakon?”

Since, you’ve asked us “Will you be there this year?”

And now, we are proud to announce…

Super Art Fight continues it’s crazy run of Summer convention shows, and if you think that the last time was insane? You haven’t seen anything yet.  See you at the Convention Center.

Doors will open for the Black Cat Backstage at 9:30pm, with the show starting promptly at 10pm.  Kicking off the show will be “Charm City Shinobi” Dann Malihom vs. Jamie “Brawlin’” Baldwin, followed by Jamie “Angry Zen Master” Noguchi vs. Darl “Apocalypse” Gnau, and we’ll be wrapping up with the big Tag Team Title defense, with Team Sexyfulness (The Baron & Dutchess Von Sexyful) defending against The Nicest Team in Art Fight (Brandon J. Carr & Red Erin).

Hold onto your hats, Los Angeles – the self-described Greatest Live Art Competition in the Known Universe is returning to your city this July as they join up with America’s largest anime convention, the legendary Anime Expo!

Super Art Fight, born in Baltimore, Maryland in 2008, has become a staple of such conventions as Katsucon, ConnectiCon and Otakon with their trademark mixture of live art, pro-wrestling style characters and storytelling, and envelope pushing improvised humor.  This is not their first trip out west, having become a national touring act with appearances at the 2012 and 2013 MacWorld/iWorld events and their first ever live event in Los Angeles this past January with an appearance at the NerdMelt Showcase at Meltdown Comics.

For those unfamiliar with Super Art Fight – an “art fight” consists of two (or more) artists battling against each other with drawn art on a large six foot tall by twelve foot wide canvas. Each artist is given a starting topic, and a twenty five minute time limit to run wild.  Artists are allowed and encouraged to have their art “attacking” their opponents art, and if an artist leaves their art open, their opponent is allowed to add to, or otherwise complete, what the artist has left unfinished.  Additionally, every five minutes, artists receive new, randomized topics from the crowd-sourced topic generator called The Wheel of Death – the artists must add these topics to the art created thus far.  At the end of the bout, the live audience picks the winners, battle of the bands style, based on cheers and applause.

They join up with Anime Expo, running Thursday, July 4th through Sunday, July 7th, to present not just one, but two unique live events over the course of the weekend.  They will bring on their trademark Super Art Fight, featuring three unique bouts, and also bring on Super Art Fight Unleashed – their most infamous of live events, where all semblance of structure and tact is thrown aside to bring together a live art event which will stun, mystify and mentally scar all those who attend.

Scheduled to appear for Super Art Fight are SAF co-founder and reigning SAF Champion, Jamie “Angry Zen Master” Noguchi, one half of the current tag team champions, Team Sexyfulness, the fashion forward Baron Von Sexyful (Michael Bracco), and former tag team champion/stealthy ninja artist “Charm City Shinobi” Dann Malihom. They will be joined by the trademark hosts of Super Art Fight, Ross Nover and Marty Day.

Feel like our big Ottobar return alongside Adam WarRock and Tribe One is just too far away? Worry not, Baltimore area SAF fans! We’ll be doing a very special show on Sunday Afternoon, June 30th!

As a part of the ongoing ZAP! POW! BAM! exhibit at the Jewish Museum of Maryland, celebrating Comic Book culture, and particularly the Golden Age of Superheroes, we will be putting on a comic book themed Super Art Fight that day, starting at 1pm!

Ladies and Gentleman, boys and girls, the Summer 2013 SAF season continues to get interesting as this August we will be heading SOUTH for the first time ever!

On Friday Evening, August 23rd we will be performing at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville as a part of Welcome Week 2013!

We’re very excited at the opportunity to perform for a brand new audience in a brand new location, and look forward to continuing to bring our brand of art entertainment to life in front of some fresh faced college kids. Oh, how we will break them.

This past weekend Super Art Fight had the honor and pleasure of making its Philadelphia debut as a part of Wizard World Philadelphia Comic Con, where we put on not just one, but two shows…and our roster ate a lot of awesome food and bought cool stuff.

But that’s besides the point, what IS the point is the results from each show, including a HUGE win for Phil “Commando” Kahn, ruling his hometown on the first show’s tournament action.

On March 30th at the Ottobar, a last minute fill in could have worked out very well for “Charm City Shinobi” Dann Malihom, but alas, he found himself on the losing side.

After his partner Henry “The Business” Alexander blew off our latest Charm City adventure for an extended trip abroad, Malihom looked to former SAF champion Jamie “Brawlin’” Baldwin for assistance to take down the Nicest Team in Art Fight.  Luck was not on their side that night, and instead of the team called “Cute But Deadly” having a title shot in DC in 2 weeks, Malihom and Baldwin instead find themselves restarting their path to the top again.

If you ask Malihom, he feels like he brought his A-Game, he’s been a tag champion before, he knows what it feels to be at the top. However, if you ask Jamie Baldwin, a true SAF original, she just feels like he needs to quit his bitchin’ and take it to the canvas.

The SAF Championship Committee certainly felt like this was a great idea, so on June 14th at The Black Cat in Washington, DC, we’ll let them settle their differences in the most creative way possible - AN ART FIGHT.

Heading into 2013, Team IMPACT seemed to have everything going their way.  Sure, there was some internal turmoil after Silent Apocalypse (Bryan “Silent But Violent” Prindiville & Darl “Apocalypse” Gnau) defeated Team IMPACT founders Jamie Noguchi & Mecha IMPACT for the tag belts at our final Red Palace show last fall, but with all the gold well within their hands, what was to be angry about?

Cut to this past March at the Ottobar. In their first defense, the “Tag Team Title Curse” struck Silent Apocalypse, as they lost the tag titles to Team Sexyfulness – and Team IMPACT leader Jamie Noguchi is not happy.

But who does he place the blame on? Prindiville, who he personally brought into the group? Or SAF Idol 2011 winner Darl Gnau, who was in on Prindiville’s good word?  That’s right – on June 14th at the Black Cat in DC, someone’s going to have to earn their respect the hard way, in an Art Fight… it will be….

In just 8 days, Super Art Fight will be making it’s Philadelphia debut as a part of Wizard World Philadelphia, bringing you not just one, but two different shows over the course of the weekend.

Show #1 will be Friday Night, May 31st at Tavern on Broad, as a part of the Friday night post-convention party.  That show kicks off at 8:30pm.

Show #2 will be Sunday Afternoon, June 2nd at the convention proper at 2pm in Room 111.

In both instances, you must have a convention wristband to get in, so if you haven’t gotten your passes yet, do so now here!

Featured on these cards will be a unique mixture of Super Art Fight talent both old and new, to give Philly some of the most unique cards yet.

It’s difficult to put into words how excited we are to finally make it happen in Philadelphia, and we cannot wait to see the PA/NJ area fans live and in person. Let’s make it a weekend to remember!

We’re up all night with the sun, we’re up all night to get some, we’re up all night for good fun, we’re up all night to FEED THE WHEEL OF DEATH!

Yes, it is time once again for you to set the bar, for you to put our artists to the test, and for you to see your artistic wants and dreams come to life by giving us fantastic topics to add to our radical wheel.

So how do you submit? It’s easy – just reply to this post and shoot off some ideas.

As always, however, brevity is key.  Topics like “Fish tank” are great, as our artists could turn the canvas into an aquarium, or draw a pissed-off fish ready for battle.  However, something like “Batman punching an elephant who is on fire which is also on top of a building which is a robot” not only makes little sense, it’s also very long and very restrictive. Either way, we’ll go through the whole list, prune the great ones and make us a brand new wheel!

The first show this wheel will be used on is our Black Cat return on June 14th, but you should also see it in play with some upcoming cons (but we’ll probably customize those a bit…). This suggestion post will be open through Wednesday, June 12th, so get to writing!
