Super Art Fest, set to run from Noon to Midnight on Saturday, May 19th, benefitting the Ulman Cancer Fund is set to be one of the most stacked events in our four year history. But let us not forget the event that put this unique show in motion – Super Art Fight IDOL.

SAF IDOL 2012 is locked and loaded, but with a twist we ourselves didn’t expect. The portfolios came in, but as the SAF Championship Committee looked through each one, it was clear that within the talent, there was an even more elite crop. A group that rose above all others.

So, from the sweet sixteen we went, dividing it down to the ELITE EIGHT. These talents will face harder and more difficult bouts than the 2011 class, and at the end, one talent will rise above, and be considered the first of a new generation of Art Fighter.

The time is now…let us announce the EIGHT PERSON bracket for SAF IDOL 2012.

SAF IDOL 2012 Round #1 Bout
Michelle Graves vs. Josrique Garcia

SAF IDOL 2012 Round #1 Bout
Branson Belchie II vs. Eric Ways

SAF IDOL 2012 Round #1 Bout
Erin Laue vs. Zach Ginsberg

SAF IDOL 2012 Round #1 Bout
Ashley Harnden vs. Phil Kahn

Where applicable, we have linked each person’s online portfolio for you to view.

We would be remiss if we did not mention one artist who unfortunately could not be a part of the show. Michael Donohue, a SAF Idol 2011 competitor was scheduled to be a part of the event, but had to back out due to a personal matter. We wish Michael well, and hope to have him as a part of a future IDOL competition. For those who did not see it, Michael put together an amazing video showcasing his road to SAF IDOL 2012, and we just had to feature it here.

Who will rise above from the ELITE EIGHT and make it happen in front of a live audience at The Metro Gallery in Baltimore, Maryland or Streaming LIVE! here at SuperArtFight.com? Join us on Saturday, May 19th to find out.

This coming May, Super Art Fight will once again be opening it’s doors to potential new roster members for the Super Art Fight IDOL 2012 Tournament!

All year long, we get asked – “How do I join Super Art Fight?” THIS is your opportunity. Past Super Art Fight IDOL participants include SAF IDOL 2011 winner Darl “Apocalypse” Gnau, and former Super Art Fight tag team champions “Charm City Shinobi” Dann Malihom and “The Business” Henry Alexander.

How do you apply? Simple – send us an email to saftryouts@gmail.com, with your name, contact information, and a link to your portfolio or some key images which you feel best showcase your work. We’re looking for artists who are comfortable in front of large audiences, performing under pressure and into drawing big. You must be 18 years old, but we are not limiting this to Maryland residents – so long as you’re willing to trek to Baltimore this May (on your own dime), you are eligible for entry.

The deadline for entry is APRIL 17th, 2012. That’s 12 days from this post. No if, ands or buts.

Upon receiving all entries, Super Art Fight management will review all portfolios, cutting the entries down to those who will participate in SAF IDOL 2012. You’ll then be emailed the good news.

Again, we underline that any prior applicant is welcome once again to enter in 2012 (and any years forward).

The lucky chosen view will then battle in a SINGLE ELIMINATION tournament at Super Art Fest at the Metro Gallery in Baltimore, MD on May 19th, 2012.

So to summarize. Get your portfolio to us on April 17th. Get into the tournament at Super Art Fest on May 19th. Fight your way into the Super Art Fight roster. See you there!

This past Friday night, we made our first stop of the 2012 Art Fight Season at Baltimore’s own Ottobar for what will go down as one of the most outrageous evenings in Super Art Fight history.

An extremely hyped crowd jam-packed the Ottobar for an event featuring 4 unpredictable bouts, a title change, and two absolutely fantastic musical performances from Beefy and headliners Paul & Storm. It was a night where Team IMPACT reigned supreme, a new duo marked themselves in the memories and minds of the SAF faithful, and a new SAF title dynasty began.

Here’s what went down.

BOUT 1: Kelsey “Killer” Wailes defeated Ghostfreehood.

A battle of former tag champions torn asunder by their loss of the belts, this opening bout set the pace for the evening. Ghostfreehood appeared in a new, darker persona – the Super Art Fight co-founder has embraced the dark side and intends to bring havoc and insanity to the already crazy world of SAF. He made a strong statement in this bout, but was no match for Kelsey and her “Stompadon” persona, which continues a strong singles run for Wailes.

BOUT 2: Team IMPACT (Bryan “Silent But Violent” Prindiville & Darl “Apocalypse” Gnau) defeated Team Sexyfulness (Michael Bracco & Chelsea “Grose Misconduct” Grose) to obtain the #1 Contendership to the Super Art Fight Tag Team Titles.

The growth of the tag division was never more apparent than in this bout, a conflict of differing personalities if there ever was one. Team Sexyfulness made their debut – the first real appearance of Michael Bracco since his loss of the SAF title at the end of the 2011 season, and…something clearly has changed. The arrogant, ridiculous duo of Grose and Bracco proved difficult for the representatives of Team IMPACT to lock down, but when the caps went on the markers, the most intimidating duo in Art Fight had their hands raised. Sometimes it’s not about what you say, but your actions, and for Gnau and Prindiville, their actions spoke way louder than their words.

BOUT 3: Team IMPACT (Jamie “Angry Zen Master” Noguchi & Mecha IMPACT) defeated The Business Ninjas (“Charm City Shinobi” Dann Malihom & “The Business” Henry Alexander) to become the NEW Super Art Fight Tag Team Champions.

This match started with quite the war of words, as Henry Alexander demonstrated to the audience (and his opponents) that business was good, as he had purchased brand new tag team titles for he and Dann. The enjoyment of those belts, however, was to be short lived. The SAF Idol duo of Alexander and Malihom proved to be too much for the veterans in Team IMPACT, and after a hard fought bout new champions were crowned. Noguchi promised in his video promo last week that the Era of Impact was beginning, and they have completely locked down the Tag division over the course of a night. What could they be doing next?

MAIN EVENT: “The Nicest Man in Art Fight” Brandon J. Carr defeated Jamie “Brawlin’” Baldwin to retain his Super Art Fight Championship. [Defense #1 for Carr]

The impressive SAF career of Brandon J. Carr continues to grow. Having freshly gained the SAF title from the most winningist champion in our 4-year history (Michael Bracco), Carr moved on to battling the former champion with the longest reign in Jamie Baldwin. Many times over the course of the night it appeared that Baldwin could have had the victory in the bag, and with both sides pulling out all of the tricks (including ADDITIONAL COLORS!), it came down to a misheard Wheel of Death topic to put Brandon J. Carr back over the top. Brandon J. Carr has a long way to go to have the most impressive SAF title reign, but just one defense in, he has made his name for sure.

Post-Show Notes

We want to thank the amazing Ottobar audience who joined us Friday night. We say it all the time that there is no place like home, but you proved it true, delivering some of the loudest reactions in SAF history. You guys were hype and excited, and performing for you was an absolute pleasure. We can’t wait to come back.

As mentioned above, Team IMPACT has the SAF Tag Title Division on lock down. But how are Gnau and Prindiville going to feel about having to face their teammates? And how do Noguchi and IMPACT feel about that anyway?

If that in-team tension wasn’t enough, Jamie Noguchi has a pending SAF title shot, having won the MAGFest Round Robin Tournament at the debut show of our 2012 Season. Can this SAF vet balance TWO titles?

Ghostfreehood – the man’s name, and now the man’s personality. Long lost in the mix of wacky costumes and hilarious antics, GFH now wants to be taken seriously and he’s aiming for the top. Brandon J. Carr should be looking out for the dark bearded one.

Locker room scouts have noticed that Jamie Baldwin and former SAF tag champ Kelsey Wailes have struck up a friendship as of late. Could they be forming a partnership? Stay tuned.

No, we don’t know when Michael Bracco became German either.

The SAF 2012 Season Continues on to ROFLCon in Boston and the HUGE Super Art Fest 12 Hour Marathon event on May 19th. What’s going to happen next? Keep your eyes here to find out.

Last year, Super Art Fight returned to the Metro Gallery in for the first ever Super Art Fight IDOL, a day-long tryout tournament event which gave sixteen amazing artists a shot at becoming a member of the Super Art Fight roster.

As The Metro Gallery has long been a venue which has supported our most experimental whims, we did not want to come back this year with the same old routine, so we had to step it up.

Once again, we proudly present the Super Art Fight IDOL tournament, giving an artist a chance at joining our ranks – but it will be part of a DAY LONG extravaganza – SUPER ART FEST!

Super Art Fest is quite literally the biggest undertaking we’ve ever done, a twelve hour long live event, running from 12 noon until 12 midnight on Saturday, May 19th. Not only will we have the full Super Art Fight IDOL 2012 tournament, but it will be a day filled with Art Fights, music, comedy and whatever else we can fit in to a twelve hour period. In fact, we can announce our first musical guest, Adam WarRock!

More than that, however, this will be an event for a cause, as a portion of the door, plus donations generated during the event from various auctions and other fundraising efforts during the show will be going towards the absolutely fantastic Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults.

Details on how you can contribute towards the cause, acts appearing on the show, and how if you can’t join us in person, you can still donate, will be appearing here on SuperArtFight.com as the show gets closer.

Before then, however, we need to get you, those who wish to be a part of SAF Idol 2012, the important details. Submissions of your portfolios is open as of RIGHT NOW, and closes on Tuesday, April 17th. That gives you one month to get everything to us. As before, we will narrow the field down to 16 participants, and past entrants are encouraged to resubmit for this year’s tryout.

To submit your portfolio, email us today to saftryouts@gmail.com. Include your name, information and a link to your art portfolio so that we can see what sort of skills you’ve got. All artists who submit must be at least 18 years of age.

Last years tournament resulted in the roster spots for Darl “Apocalypse” Gnau, “The Business” Henry Alexander and “Charm City Shinobi” Dann Malihom – are you ready to follow in their footsteps? Submit your art today.

More details on Super Art Fight IDOL 2012 and Super Art Fest are coming soon. Stay tuned.

We are just two days away from our glorious return to The Ottobar in Baltimore, MD on Friday, March 16th, and our locker room is getting tense.

The tension is so high, in fact, that it’s going to the web, with some smack talk hitting the YouTubes from our various artists.

It started with this unique video statement from Nick “Ghostfreehood” DiFabbio to his opponent, Kelsey “Killer” Wailes.

Then, Jamie “Angry Zen Master” Noguchi made an absolutely apocalyptic statement from Team IMPACT (himself, Mecha IMPACT, Bryan Prindiville and Darl Gnau) towards their opponents and honestly, the entire SAF roster…

If that wasn’t enough, our reigning tag team champions Team Business Ninja (Dann Malihom and Henry Alexander) made it very clear – they’re putting a hit out on the ENTIRE tag team division.

Be there when the tension hits it’s peak – 4 big bouts, 2 title matches, Beefy & Paul and Storm, it’s another huge night at the Ottobar, THIS FRIDAY! Get your tickets NOW!
