Learn OUR HISTORY
It All Started with a Busted A/V Setup
February 2008, Katsucon, Washington DC. During an “Iron Artist” event headlined by Nick “Ghostfreehood” DiFabbio and Jamie “Angry Zen Master” Noguchi, the A/V equipment went rogue and left the artists with no option but to improvise. The two that would soon become Super Art Fight legends kicked it all off by drawing, and drawing, and continuing to draw, attacking each other’s art with more art, all in a flurry of last-second inspiration. This off-the-cuff concept was too much fun to be confined to a single Katsucon panel, and from this event Super Art Fight was born.
Ten-plus years and tens of dozens of events later, Super Art Fight has become a stalwart of the Baltimore/DC arts and entertainment scene, as well as made its reach beyond the confines of the Mid-Atlantic. We’ve performed in Los Angeles, Toronto, New York, Philadelphia, and other cities around the country, all while maintaining a steady presence at our home bases of Baltimore’s Ottobar and DC’s Black Cat. We’ve accrued both hardcore superfans and casual onlookers, made our mark at comic conventions across the continent, and sold a damn good amount of merchandise.
As we approach twenty years of Super Art Fight action, we’re thrilled to be able to keep doing this show and making it bigger and better for our fans. From all of us backstage, here’s to another two decades of kicking ass and making art.
Show History
We’ve done well over 200 Super Art Fight shows since our beginnings in 2008. It would be impossible to list them all here, but we can at least show off all the fantastic promotional posters for our club shows and other major events. Take a stroll down memory lane!
title History
The Super Art Fight title belt is a prize held in esteem like no other. Over the years, it has changed hands over twenty times between over a dozen artists, all of whom had to fight and claw their way to a title shot for a chance at glory. We recognise those heroes of the canvas here.
Tag title History
Introduced three years into Super Art Fight lore, the Tag Team championships have been held by over twenty artists in our history. The fight for the tag belts is a place for artists to show off cooperation on the canvas amidst the chaos that four people jockeying for space creates. We salute them!
Super Art Fight Hall of Fame
Like any good sport, pseudo-sport, sports entertainment venture or otherwise, we have a Hall of Fame of our very own. Join us in celebrating the legends of the Super Art Fight stage who helped to trailblaze what we are today, by drawing, talking, and creating. Without them, Super Art Fight wouldn’t be the Greatest Live Art Competition in the Known Universe.

Jamie Noguchi
ccc|ttt
SAF co-creator Jamie Noguchi could have rested on his laurels, but instead he ran through the crowd and jumped all over the stage; there was no one better at hyping up a crowd. With bombastic energy and clean drawing, he was the mentor to many an Art Fighter, and we love him for it.

Brandon Chalmers
l
Back in the early days of Super Art Fight, Brandon was the referee with a heart of gold and the immovability of a small mountain. Judicious and fair in his rulings on shenanigans, Ref Brandon kept matches fast and fun. He is also known as the master of backstage pre-show pep talks.

Chris Impink
c|t
One of the Super Art Fight OGs, and one of our earliest tag team champions, Chris Impink is perhaps best recognized as the creator of the original Wheel of Death. All the wheel spins we’ve known and loved over the years were a creation at the hands of the man known as Impact.

The Megadrives
l
As a duo, The Megadrives provided the perfect soundtrack to Super Art Fight live shows, blending nerdy pop-culture tunes with the deep bass and heavy drops befitting our club shows. DJ Sheephead took his leave of the DMV, but DJ K-Rai still performs with Super Art Fight to this day.
Super Art Fight Alumni
Our roster has been an ever-expanding collective of artists over the years. Many have said goodbye to their time in Super Art Fight and moved on to other endeavors, but their impact on the show is not forgotten. Thank you to everyone who helped make Super Art Fight what it is today!
